Misty Garden Meeting

Icicle Radish sprouts
As you can see from the water droplets on the radish leaf above, the weather watered the garden today.  Our meeting started in the Green School library, where we created a layout for the incoming transplants.  We have over 150 seedlings coming this Friday, May 4th.  GrowNYC hosts a sale of flowers, herbs, vegetables, grasses and vines for school and community gardens.  Planting starts when school dismisses: 3:30 PM.

Today we were visited by New School students with cameras.  They were profiling one of their classmates, Noah Strouse.  Noah has been involved in the garden from its beginning stages, bringing volunteers, grant funds, leaf collection, and his own sweat equity.  It looks like the New School wanted to show off one of its students!

Garden tasks accomplished today include pest checks, seedling thinning, compost turning and supplies inventory for Friday's planting.  Luckily we saw no signs of rats.  We picked up enough trash to fill a plastic bag, decreasing the rats' preferred food of half-empty snack bags.  There has been a pest making small holes and digging in a few of the raised beds.  We're not sure what kind of creature it is, current guesses include cats, squirrels, and birds.  Hopefully they'll move to the flower beds and leave the vegetables alone...
