Summer Volunteer Schedule

Sprout is working hard to put together a realistic and complete schedule of volunteers to help take care of the Gaynor Campus Garden throughout the summer.  Summer maintenance is an important issue to address with school gardens because it is the most active time for the garden and school is not in session.

One way Sprout is working to keep students involved is by working with the summer school staff to bring their kids into the garden for a short period of time several days a week to help with plant care/watering and generally keeping the garden clean and healthy.

Sprout is also working on creating internship positions for a couple of our regular garden club members who have expressed interest in staying involved with the garden throughout the summer.  The interns will alternate weeks of responsibility and on their designated weeks, come to the garden several times to check on the plants and complete a list of tasks that includes watering, inventory and clean-up.

Last week we met with a pastor from Williamsburg Church.  Rob lives in the neighborhood and had walked by the garden on our April 21st work day.  He has been watching the changes in the garden and a group of congregants expressed interest in helping keep the garden looking beautiful all summer.  We are working on ways to get community groups into the garden and hopefully this group will help us navigate that process.

If you'd like to help out with summer garden maintenance or get involved with Sprout by volunteering, or taking on administrative tasks, please email: sproutbrooklyn@gmail.com  We'd love to hear from you!
