Plant Care at Garden Club

We had a productive garden club meeting and the rain all but held out for most of it.  We took a quick inventory of missing plants and discussed possible culprits.  Squirrels seems to be a likely suspect, although we are not sure that they could have completely uprooted our missing raspberry plant.

We discussed possible deterrents like cayenne pepper and putting a metal mesh over the top of the roots to make them more difficult to remove.  Luckily we have plants that could use more space, so we can do some relocating, but we'll have to find a solution to the squirrel situation.  Luckily the lettuce that was planted on May 4th looks to be doing very well.

Katie, Nathan, Claude, Unique, and KaiKee put up string on bamboo sticks in the snap pea bed.  As the plants grow, their tendrils will wrap around the string and allow the plants to get nice and tall.

Heather took and inventory of the tools and supplies in the bins and tool shed and as a group we all discussed the plant care schedule for the summer.

The kale seeds look to be doing well, although the cilantro planted on April 21st may need some thinning!
